We had a brainstorming session today and I thought of something on a different vein. (Not upcyling or shabby chic projects)
How come we don’t do something with LGBTQ? Two years ago, I attended Capital Pride and was disappointed with the merchandise sold at the festival. There were a few street carts selling rainbow suspenders, bracelets, rainbow beads and rings all of which were cheaply made and a bit gimmicky. As for the clothing options, I believe there were only two booths that sold clothing. I bought one that said, “Some chicks marry chicks-get over it!” with the little “FCKH8” logo on the bottom. I wasn’t thrilled with the tees splashed with a big FCKH8 logo on it mainly because I knew I couldn’t wear it to work, around the children in my family, etc. Sadly, being nearly 30, much of that gay pride merchandise didn’t feel age appropriate. Even after much searching online, I find things that are either geared toward teens or have messages that are far too abrasive.
That’s when I thought of making a line of merchandise focused on the family and love aspect. Picture frames that say, Mom & Mom, Dad & Dad, etc. Merchandise that also appeals to children of gay couples.
After much research, we’ve thought of quite a lot of sayings and ideas for tee shirts, magnets, plates, picture frames, etc and really think we should go down this road.
